RESUMEN

In the field of qualitative research, life stories are consolidated as one of the most important techniques within the biographical method. However, due to the multiplicity of techniques covered by this method and the disciplines in which it is applied, the contributions and scope of life histories do not present a clear delimitation. By contrast, a considerable conceptual confusion persists and the transfer of its production remains very narrow. In this sense, this article aims to clarify the field of knowledge generated through life stories. To this end, it innovatively applies the bibliometric method. Making use of performance analysis and scientific mapping through the VosViewer application, it studies a body of 2670 articles indexed in the Web of Science. The results show how knowledge transferred from psychology through its major schools of thought occupies a central place. This leaves in a secondary position the knowledge produced by other disciplines such as sociology or anthropology, which is not transferred in the main forums of scientific impact. In this way, the conclusion points to the need to open up new lines of research to find out the differences between the different techniques and disciplines when applying this methodology.

RESUMEN

Research has documented the considerable hardships immigrant women often face if they want to leave abusive relationships, but the cumulative impacts of such experiences have received insufficient scholarly attention. In response, this study investigates women's difficulties leaving abusive relationships based on life story interviews with 35 immigrant women who experienced partner abuse. Almost all the women originated from "patriarchal belt" countries in, for example, the Middle East and all arrived in Denmark as adults. Using a model of gendered geographies of power, this study examines key interview passages in which the women use dramatized speech to tell about their younger selves' interactions with significant others. These dramatized episodes of interactions emerge as crucial for the interviewees to communicate why they remained in abusive relationships for years and how most finally managed to leave their husbands. The narrated episodes reveal how the women's frequent lack of success in various interactional situations can be attributed to women "having the lower hand"-holding disadvantaged positions in the familial, social, and national hierarchies of power. These hierarchies reinforce each other, for example, when insecure residency status limits immigrant women's options to solicit help from Danish society. The analysis demonstrates that-in contrast to the stereotype of the abused immigrant woman as a passive victim-micro- and macro-level processes may work together to undermine immigrant women's possibilities to act independently at important junctures in their lives. The results also stress the importance that frontline workers have sufficient understanding of immigrant women's predicament and the ability to extend qualified and timely support. Such support can be crucial for abused immigrant women to become able to move away from their violent home environments.

Life story systematization requires a rigorous selection of information from various sources. This brief qualitative study uses the biographical method and its objective is to describe the figure of Bartolomé Coronel. Considered one of the first children doctors and his contribution to Asuncion society at the beginning of the 20th century, who died in the Bubonic plague pandemic, in 1911. Various sources are taken: from the profile made by the distinguished educator Celsa Speratti de Garcete, family letters, details of her biography provided by a familiar, speeches allusive to the subject of study and other texts that allow a collective view of him. In conclusion, the current context of Covid19 and the Bubonic plague in the past present the same risk and scarce biosecurity measures taked despite the advancement of science and medicine in our days. The figure of Dr. Bartolomé Coronel presents a wealth of nuances and deserves to be rescued with the memory of oblivion.

Abstract (analytical): This paper analyzes the experiences of a group of young students from Denmark who studied at the University of Valparaiso as part of an international university exchange program. The life story methodological technique allows us to describe not just the way in which the experience of participating in an exchange program transforms students' identities and academic, professional and ideological trajectories, but also how it affects their perceptions and concepts of their places of origin and destination. The findings from this study contribute to the debate about the sociocultural and political dimensions of globalization, particularly on links between the values of global citizenship and the different ways of understanding and living alterity.

Abstract This paper establishes a dialogue between the resilience and the narrative perspective, from an approach to life stories as a qualitative methodological mediation of particular significance. It aims to read comprehensively what happens to subjects when they relate life-telling stories, recognizing that lighting the human fact as a subjective construction involves the capability to relate one's life, permeated by borderline experiences. Attention is focused in life experiences as mediation, and their signification is in consideration for resilience research. The method was based on a documentary review, and a categorical analysis, searching for theoretical and methodological elements that strengthen resilience research from the narrative approach.
